Frequently Asked Questions
How many residents do you accept each year?
Currently, our program has a capacity for four residents, comprising a balanced representation of two in the clinical track and two in the teaching track. These residents form part of a broader assembly of Physical Therapy Residencies within the University of Washington. This collective comprises individuals specializing in Neuro, Acute Care, Pediatrics, Sports, and Orthopedics. Throughout the year, these residents engage in specific shared didactic modules, including but not limited to professionalism, leadership, advocacy, expert practice development, and journal clubs
How much experience do I need to apply?
Admission to our program is open to recent graduates, provided they have successfully concluded one clinical affiliation pertinent to their specialty practice area, ideally spanning a duration of three months.
Can I be considered if I am taking the NPTE examination in July?
We strongly encourage all applicants to take the exam in April, as the processing time for your license can vary and you may not have it by the start date, but you will be considered if you are taking the exam in July
How long is the program?
The program is twelve months long. It typically starts in mid-September and runs through to the following September.
How much mentoring will the resident receive?

A typical work week for the resident will be 50-55 hours a week. This includes 32-40 hours of direct patient care, 2-10 hours of didactics and independent study, and 6-8 hours of teaching or tutoring. The didactic hours will vary from quarter to quarter and are front-loaded to prepare the resident for the clinic. The teaching will only occur two of the four quarters
